In recent times, many printing services are opting for environmental printing to reduce burden on environment. Few measures like using fast bio-degradable paper, using vegetable inks for printing, and sending empty cartridges for refilling are few measures adopted by printing machine owners. Such simple measures make the printers more environmentally friendly by preventing thousands of greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere. Those measures also make the local eco-systems healthier and more likely to flourish.
The old techniques used by printing services are not considered environmental friendly because of the following reasons. The reasons why the olden techniques was not considered safe for nature because
- Power to run the press was obtained by burning fossil fuels like coal
- Printing press contributes to a large amount of waste mainly because of the paper waste produced by various offices. These papers release toxins into environment before they are biodegraded.
- The ink cartridges take almost four hundred to thousand years to break down. The chemicals that are leached from the plastic and ink of the cartridges are quite dangerous.
